Mikhail Tamonov wins fourth medal in kayaking 24.06.2011
Day two of the All-Russian University Canoe/Kayak Competitions, All-Russian University Rowing Competitions and Russian Rowing Championship (non-Olympic programme) was marked with new achievements
Artem Kosov from the Tatar State Humanitarian and Pedagogical University became the first triumphator of the day, outrunning his compatriot Maksim Zhemaldinov.
The Tomsk duo of Baturin/Dvoinikov topped the men’s lightweight double scull, while Lifshits/Zakharov from Tatarstan finished third.
The combined quad made up of Anna and Arina Kornilova, Irina Zvereva from Tver was unbeatable in the women’s eight. The team from Saint Petersburg Ippolitova/Pozdnikina/Sazonova/Terentyeva and the quadruple from Lipetsk Chernykh/Evtukhova/Zayats/Lelyavina claimed third and fourth places respectively.
In the men’s coxed eight the main trophy went to the combined team coxed by Telitsyn. Silver was won by the Tatarstan team with coxswain Nasibullin. And the third place was taken by the Rostov-on-Don eight coxed by Brizhatiy.
In the double scull Ekaterina Shuravina and Viktoria Malygina from Tatarstan were the first to cross the finish line. The Ekaterinburg duo of the Khamidullina sisters ended as a runner-up.
The women’s 200m single kayak race gold went to Elena Polyakova from the Pirogov Russian State Medical University (Moscow), silver and bronze was earned by Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture (Volgograd) students Inga Gurzhey and Alexandra Marchenko. And in the men’s 200m single kayak race Mikhail Tamonov from the Pedagogical Institute of the South Federal University snatched his third gold. Together with Oleg Zhetskov a day earlier he took two medals in the double and the quad. Now he topped the podium in the singles, leaving behind Kirill Lyapunov from the State Central Order of Lenin Institute of Physical Culture (Moscow) and Andrey Belousov from Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture (Volgograd). Tamonov’s partner Oleg Zhestkov fiinished fifth this time.
In the men’s 200m canoe race Danil Ermakov from the State Central Order of Lenin Institute of Physical Culture (Moscow) had no match. two other places were taken by representatives of Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don. Dmitry Petrov from Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture (Volgograd) claimed silver. It stands to note that on the first day of the competitions he won two gold medals. Bronze went to Mikhail Karpov from the Pedagogical Institute of the South Federal University.
Zhestkov/Tamonov left no chance to their opponents in the men’s 200m kayak double. Timofeev/Mikhailov from Volgograd and Voronkov/Shpilov from Ufa placed second and third respectively. Thus, with a total of four gold medals Mikhail Tamonov tops the individual medal standings, followed by Oleg Zhestkov (2 gold+1 silver), Dmitry Petrov (2 gold+1 silver) and Artem Kosov (2 gold).
