Lifelong dream of volunteers 14.08.2010
At present the first Youth Olympic Games are viewed as a rehearsal of a new large sporting event but in about ten years each person who was lucky to get involved into it will be proud of being part of the history
On August 10 the international volunteers finished their training courses and got their final time-schedules. The volunteers visited the sports venues where they work as interpreters. Most volunteers who were assigned to work at the Youth Olympic Village have already completed their first shifts. Despite the fact that they have individual schedules, the Tatarstan volunteers walk around the city in a large and friendly group wearing the Universiade 2013 volunteer outfit displaying the patriotism to our country, our republic and to the activity that our young life is devoted to!
The volunteers enjoyed the privilege of accompanying the athletes at the opening ceremony, standing on the stage and being in the spotlight. On August 12 all the international volunteers attended the dress rehearsal. Two and a half hours didn’t prevent the Tatarstan volunteers from spending quality time. The very thought of participating in the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games gives strength and heats imagination.
On August 14 the delegation consisting of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov, Olympic Committee of Russia Executive Director Marat Bariev, Secretary of the Presidential Council of the Development of Physical Culture and Sports Alexey Kulakovsky, Deputy Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Yury Nagorhyh, Sochi 2014 Organising Committee President Dmitry Chernyshenko visited the Youth Olympic Village.
The delegates got acquainted with the living conditions of the athletes and met the Russian national team. The meeting was attended by the Universiade 2013 volunteers. Alexander Zhukov asked them about their work, wished luck in volunteering activity and in rendering assistance to the Olympic athletes. Sochi 2014 Organising Committee President Dmitry Chernyshenko expressed hope that the volunteers would assemble experience and knowledge for preparation and holding of the Universiade in Kazan and the Olympic Games in Sochi.
During the meeting the officials wished the young athletes the best of luck and triumph during the competitions that start today.
