Volunteer Sergey Shlychkov: Future generations will not forget Universiade 2013 02.07.2010
Volunteer and second year student of the faculty of management and marketing of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law Sergey Shlychkov shared his views on the volunteer camp and the coming 2013 Universiadewith kazan2013.com.
- What attracted you in student autonomy and how did you get in the volunteer camp?
I was drawn by desire to work and see the results of my work. I’d like to make my contribution in the volunteer movement and preparation for the 2013 Universiade.
- How did you learn about the Universiade and social movements related to it?
Our Institute is known for its social work. On September 2 I went carting and I was approved by the Student Council members and enlisted in the volunteer’s group. A hectic social life started. The peculiarity of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law is intergenerational continuity in volunteer movement. That’s why the freshers are brought up to hand. We tell them what’s going on in Tatarstan and help to find their place in our social work based on addictions and preferences of each student.
- What goals do the volunteers have about the 2013 Universiade?
Our global goal is to stage the best Universiade in the history of humanity. Most people believe that the Moscow Olympics in 1980 exceeded in many respects all the previous international sporting events. I think that Kazan has an excellent chance to repeat its success. The 2013 Student Games are to become most organized and most memorable. And I would like to believe that a few generations later people will notice with joy and warmth that the Kazan Universiade organization is still beyond the reach.
- Tell us about the volunteer camp that was held outside Kazan at the end of June and why was it organized?
To begin with the camp gives a chance to exchange experience. Having arrived in the morning we got accreditation and put tents up and afterward the most interesting part of the camp started. The session started lively, I was assigned as a team leader, more precisely as its coordinator. The team was tight-knit and we named it Water polo kit as the emblem of our team was the little snow leopard in water polo swimming suit.
All the camp participants were accommodated in tents on the territory of the Ministry of the Interior recreation center. The camp was preceded by the official opening ceremony during which volunteers from dozens of regions of the Russian Federation staged a bright parade. The camp became a platform for interesting acquaintances and experience exchange in the field. For instance we had multisports games. The idea of the games is that all the volunteers were assigned as sportspeople, managers and volunteers and in cooperation with each other organize a fully-featured sporting event from scratch. Besides at the camp we were presented and thoroughly studied more than 30 real volunteer projects. We were also given a lot of new and application information from the experts.
- How did the Russian volunteers take the way of work offered to them?
Everybody was in great mood, they liked the camp very much and the way of work we offered to them proved its efficiency: nature and air is a perfect background for communicating and perceiving new information. They changed their views on the spot.
- What do you personally expect from the Kazan Universiade?
I’m an ambitious volunteer and I see myself as a manager and I’m preparing for it. The volunteer organization is functioning already and our main goal for now is to involve new young people.
