Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism foundation stone was laid in Kazan 02.08.2010

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the groundbreaking ceremony

The foundation stone laying event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation Pavel Novikov, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, Tatarstan Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov, Tatarstan Minister of Education and Science Albert Gilmutdinov and officers of ministries and departments of Tatarstan.

In his welcome speech RT President Rustam Minnikhanov noted that the Universiade had given birth to many ideas that were being implemented then. “Today we are laying the foundation stone for the new education centre. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to RF Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Leontyevich Mutko for supporting our idea of founding such a sports education centre,” Mr Rustam Minnikhanov stated in his speech.

“There is no education centre of this kind in Russia. The foundation of the structure for which we are laying the stone today was made possible by Tatarstan President Rustam Nurgaliyevich, thanks to his colossal energy and activity,” Mr Pavel Novikov said. On behalf of RF Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko he expressed hope and confidence that the academy would be an outstanding education institution and extended thanks to everyone for the work done.

The Federal State Higher Education Institution “Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism” is to be founded in Tatarstan on the basis of the Kama State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of Naberezhnye Chelny. The Academy’s mission is to increase integration of educational, athletic training and scientific innovative procedures for the long lasting heritage of the 2013 Universiade ad well.

The education institution is made up of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, the Institute of Adaptive Physical Culture, the Institute of Economics and Sports Management, the Institute of Recreation, Service and Tourism, the Institute of Advanced Vocational Training and Continuing Education, the Graduate School for sports coaches, the College and the FISU International education centre. It is expected that there will be two degrees of education: Bacalaureat and Master with full-time and part-time education.

The Academy will comprise a series of the Universiade-2013 venues: Ak Bars Wrestling Palace, Tennis Academy, Zilant Sports Complex, indoor swimming pool, athletics stadium, Gymnastics Centre, Rowing Centre and Aquatics Centre.
