VII European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off in Kazan 05.07.2010
The VII European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship press conference was held in Kazan. The tournament will last from July 5-10.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Khalil Shaikhutdinov, Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Committee Azat Kadyrov, Honorary President of the Russian Volleyball Federation Valentin Zhukov, EUSA EC Member Leonz Eder and EUSA СT Chair Daniela Erni.

Khalil Shaikhutdinov was first to deliver a welcome adress at the press conference. He pointed out that the European Tournament was held in Kazan immediately following the Russian Beach Volleyball national tour that had ended the day before.
Azat Kadyrov addressed words of gratitude to the European University Sports Association for a chance to host this sporting event. Taking the opportunity he also congratulated the mass media representatives who were present at the press conference on their belated professional holiday – World Sports Journalist Day.
The Kazan guests – Leonz Eder and Daniela Erni – also expressed their gratitude to the capital of Tatarstan and the European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship managers. “It’s the seventh European Championship that I attend as a ТС Chair. I should confess that the Championship has the best technical infrastructure I’ve seen before”, Daniela Erni said. “I’m certain that you can be proud of your city as Kazan pays such a huge attention to sports”, Leonz Eder stated.
The Championship will take place in the Riviera hotel and entertainment complex, where 13 men’s and 14 women’s teams from Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Poland, Portugal, France, Spain and Russia will compete against each other. Specifically the Championship will draw the participants from the University of London (Great Britain), Gazi University (Turkey), University of Lodz (Poland), Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland), Grenoble University (France), University of Malaga (Spain) and other European Universities.
The honor of the Russian universities will be defended by the students of Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism, Moscow Institute of Business and Law, Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service and Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute.
13 referees from Moscow, Ryazan, Lipetsk, Krasnodar and Saint-Petersburg will judge the European Championship.The head referee is Gennady Zharikov, internationally certified referee.
Beach volleyball is added to the sports program of the 2013 Universiade in Kazan. The VII European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship is not the first international beach volleyball tournament in Russia. Moscow hosted the Grand Slam Swatch FIVB World Tour-2010 June 7-14.
We remind that according to the FISU requirements Kazan has to stage international competitions in all the 26 sports of the 2013 World Summer Student Games till summer 2013. The capital of Tatarstan already hosted the IV European Universities Table Tennis Championship June 22-26.
