VII European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship: Day 1 results 06.07.2010

In the men’s events the audience enjoyed the play of the duo from Kuban. The students of Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Artem Vakulenko took victory in both their meets. Besides the Kuban volleyball players were the youngest among the tournament entrants. By the way this fact didn’t prevent Artem and Viacheslav from showing a decent game in the Kazan round of the Russian Beach Volleyball Championship.

The unspoken favorites of the match from Poland and Switzerland played Day 1 of the Championship very decently. The University of Lodz posted an upset victory in the first match. Swiss Federal Institute of Technology volleyball players stayed also unbeaten.

The women’s events also determined the leaders: London University students Anja Franke and Jevgenija Livca didn’t suffer any bitter defeat – they took two victories. The Polish players Gajewska and Saad also earned wins in two matches without losing a single set. As for the national teams it’s the tandem from Moscow Institute of Business and Law that stands out among the Russian athletes. Moscow players Daria Yarzutkina and Victoria Rastykus played just one match posting a confident win over the University of Coimbra. The duo of Yarzutkina/Rastykus showed good performance in the first round of the Russian Championship as they managed to advance to the semi where they lost to the competition winners.

Sports battles of European Beach Volleyball Championship

The European Championship featured the longest match between Russian players Gritsay/Fedorov and Portuguese athletes Pires/Ribeiro that lasted 70 minutes. The match ended with the victory of the Technical University of Lisbon.
