Universiade volunteers at first Youth Olympics in Singapore 11.08.2010

There is a blog on the official web-site of the Universiade 2013 in which the volunteers describe their amusing daily routine and share experience of discovering such a diverse and exotic Singapore

16 best volunteers of Tatarstan will assist with the organisation of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and work as interpreters and attaches of the National Olympic Committees. The most active and experienced volunteers who had been involved in the Universiade national and international volunteering activities for the whole year were lucky to be selected to go to Singapore.

Several days before the start of the Games they took a few trainings, got acquainted with Russian athletes, studied Singapore laws and celebrated Republic’s Day. The volunteers are learning the culture of Singapore and keep marvelling at traditions and lifestyle of the city-state. “I would never have thought that there is a country in the world where you can buy a chewing gum only on a doctor’s prescription,” Rimma Galiakberova, Universiade volunteer, reflects with amusement in her blog.

Each day the volunteers meet new people, experience new emotions and feel that they are an integral part of a global sporting event. “We have nothing but positive impressions and what’s more important is that every day each of us learns something new and useful,” Karina Ismagilova writes in her blog.

However the Tatarstan volunteers adhere to their major mission – study of the Singapore Youth Olympics experience that may be used during preparation and staging of the 2013 Universiade in Kazan.
