Universiade Village to welcome first residents 31.08.2010

On August 30-31 more than 1,000 students of Kazan (Volga region) Federal University, Tatar State Humanitarian Pedagogical University and Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute will move into residence halls of the first two clusters.

The fact that the Universiade Village commenced its operation three years prior to the start of the World Summer Student Games will enable a step-by-step development of the Universiade Village operational principles during the 2013 Universiade. Thus, the FISU-recommended accreditation procedure of athletes will be tested in the course of students’ settlement. Apart from that the 2013 Universiade volunteers that will be responsible for the Universiade Village will be able to practice athletes’ settlement by the example of students’ housing.

It’s the first time in Russia that students’ settlement proceeds according to the internationally agreed rules. Residents’ data will be accumulated in the common electronic database and the students will be given electronic access cards. Besides the Village will be equipped with modern video surveillance, A/C, access control and fire-extinguishing systems.

We remind that the first cluster of the unique student campus comprises 5 different-storeyed buildings. The second cluster includes 15 typical residential buildings. The campus buildings are made up of single, double and triple rooms. There is one kitchen unit per four rooms. The kitchen room is supplied with a fridge and a four-burner stove. In the second cluster there is a fridge and a two-burner stove in each room.

It is expected that apart from the residential buildings, the International Centre – the Universiade Kremlin – will be built there. During the World Student Games the Universiade Village will feature an accreditation centre, a 4,000-seat dining area, a medical centre, a monitoring centre and a cultural complex with the largest concert hall in the Volga region.
