Universiade Village residents pledge to stay healthy 20.12.2011
Today, December 20, students of the therapeutic faculty of Kazan State Medical University (KSMU), which had partnered with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, met with residents of the Universiade Village and had a debate on a healthy way of life
Special attention was attached to such issues as the musculoskeletal system of a human body as student age is the time when young people reach their peak bone mass. The event’s organisers not only gave the theoretical framework but also offered the students to take part in a role-playing game. A boy and a girl dressed up as old people demonstrated the audience how difficult it is to move when a body is chronically sore and stiff because of osteoporosis, an age-dependent decrease in bone mass.
«It was really hard to walk. Now I understand why we need to fear the prospect of growing old and start thinking about our health even as we speak,» said the girl that played the role of an old woman.
Another topic that students discussed during the meeting was venereal diseases. During this lecture, boys and girls watched a presentation that provided a detailed review of all possible diseases and, just as important, recommendations were given on how to protect themselves from these deseases.
«Today we’ve hosted a test event: medical students have met with students of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University that reside in the Universiade Village. As I see it, a peer-to-peer talk always delivers good results, like the one we’ve seen with you today. Next year, jointly with managerial staff of the Universade Village, the administration of our Medical University plans to develop a medical student training programme,» revealed plans Leysan Myasoutova, one of the co-organisers of today’s event.
Dairy products were handed out to the attendees after the lecture came to an end. «Stay healthy,» the organisers wished while giving away goodies to the students. «We will,» the residents of the Universiade Village solemnly pledged.
We would remind you that the Universiade Village was called the ‘Territory of Health’ and there is a strict code of conduct for the student camp’s residents. Every week students attend various events aimed at bringing health and a healthy way of life into fashion.
