Travel ‘Around the World’ in two hours 22.12.2011
The Around the World Festival, organised by foreign language majors of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, was held in the Universiade Village on December 21
Yesterday Universiade Village residents set out on the voyage ‘around the world’. Wandering around the building where the event was organised, the festival’s attendees discovered themselves in the atmosphere of various nations. Thanks to the organisers, students learned about customs and traditions of the country presented to them and were offered to sample gastronomic delights of Turkish, Chinese, German and even Mоroccan cuisines. While staying in ‘the United Arab Emirates’, ‘tourists’ attended an ethnic dance masterclass and witnessed a bride’s rite of passage. In ‘China’ the festival’s attendees sang «Jingle Bells» in the ‘native’ language. Although being an entertainment event, the festival saw a socially significant decision being taken: Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev promised to consider an offer of ‘German representatives’ to introduce recycling to the Universiade Village.
«Our residents enchanted the audience with their personal touch and creative approach. I’ve already noted on repeated occasions that students here live, create and get inspired by their own ideas and talents. On the threshold of the New Year season, I’d like to wish all the students happiness, good luck, strength and success in creative projects,» said Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev.
«I’m so thrilled with today’s event. I’ve embraced a local colour of all the countries. I especially liked the Turkish dish maklube and French girls,» admitted Artur Basyrov, a sports organiser of Building 1, after the event ended.
Two hours, six countries. After the virtual tour around the world came to an end, most students confessed that some countries became a revelation to them as they discovered a lot of new and astonishing facts about them.
