Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) George Killian at the Kazan Kremlin on August 1, the Tatarstan presidential press service informs
FISU President George Killian, FISU Secretary General Erik Saintrond and FISU EC member – President of the Russian Student Sports Union Oleg Matytsin arrived in the capital of Tatarstan at the invitation of Rustam Minnikhanov.
At the meeting with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov George Killian shared his impressions of the “Russia – Country of Sports» international forum held in Moscow on July 29-31, 2010. Mr Killian highly appreciated the level of the forum organisation and importance that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev places on such large-scale sporting events. According to George Killian it was the first time in the history of the Universiade movement that such a large country as Russia saw staging of the Universiade as equal to the Olympics.

Speaking about the sports venues constructed in Kazan within the frame of the 2013 Universiade preparation FISU President stated that all of them had been built at the highest level.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov noted that the Federal Government assigned high priority to organisation of the 2013 Universiade in Kazan. “We receive considerable support from the federal centre,” he said. Rustam Minnikhanov also pointed out that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had paid a visit to Kazan on May 5, 2010 and participated in the opening ceremony of seven Universiade-2013 sports venues.
In the course of a conversation with Rustam Minnikhanov Mr Killian remarked that special priority should be given to preparation of the city’s infrastructure in the frame of organisation of the World Summer Student Games. The FISU President reminded that according to one of the FISU regulations all the sports venues were to be located within a 20-minute distance.
Rustam Minnikhanov and George Killian also discussed the issues of the Universiade-2013 heritage, foundation of the Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism in Tatarstan, etc.
The meeting was attended by Olympic Committee of Russia Executive Director Marat Bariev, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Tatarstan Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
