Tatarstan foil fencer took silver at YOG in Singapore 16.08.2010
Day 1 of the first Youth Olympic games saw two foil events
The YOG Day 1 featured two fencing events. Tatarstan foil fencer Victoria Alexeyeva won silver after being surpassed by Italian Camilla Mancini 9-15 in the final. Dora Lupkovics from Hungary placed third. South Korean Jong Hun Song took the title in in the saber event with Leonardo Affede (Italy) as a runner-up and the bronze medal went to Richard Hubers from Germany, the Tatar-Inform news agency informs.
According to the Day 1 results the Russian athletes won five medals: two gold, two silver and one bronze. In team standings our youth team placed second after China (3-1-0) and Azerbaijan goes third (2-0-0). Italian athletes place fourth so far (1-1-0) followed by the USA (1-0-2), Ves Sport (All Sport) Agency reports. Russia is leading the pack in the full medal standings (5), overtaking the Chinese (4) and American athletes (3).
Ruslan Adzhigov earned a gold medal in the men’s 85kg greco-roman wrestling while Anastasia Valueva captured the taekwondo title (under 43 kg). Victoria Alexeyeva and swimmer Kristina Kochetova (200m, individual medley) won silver, the bronze medal went to wrestler Artur Smolyaninov (under 58 kg).
There are three Tatarstan representatives in the team. They are Svetlana Lipatova (free-style wrestling), Victoria Alexeyeva (foil fencing) and weight-lifter Artyom Okulov who represents both Tatarstan and the Perm region.
