Table Tennis Empire strikes back 25.06.2010
The Day 3 morning program of the European Universities Championship ended with doubles events.
One Polish men’s doubles team (Tomasz Lewandowsli and Pawel Chmiel) and three Russian doubles teams (Alexey Ulanov and Dmitry Popov, Kazan players Ramil Mutygullin and Marsel Valeyev, Orenburg players Artem Utochkin and Igor Lezhnev) will battle for gold. Another Kazan doubles team Ilya Zhidkov and Alexey Bolshov will stand against Gorge Tito and Rafael Pedra from Portugal. The pair of Alim Hirji and Mark Simpson will defend the honor of Nottingham University in the duel meet with the doubles team of Russian State University for Humanities Sergey Martykov and Taras Merzlikin.
The half of the women’s singles matches were decided in the round of 32. Following the results of the day matches Kazan player Anastasia Voronova will meet Olga Koop from the University of Duisburg-essen (Germany). Ekaterina Rylskaya is to compete with Xin Yang who represents Jan Dlugosz University of Czestochowa (Poland).

The singles will also see two battles between Tatiana Mikhailova from Russian State University for Humanities and Jana Schneider from the University of Freiberg and also between Alla Gorbenko from the University of Duisburg-essen and Anastasia Golubeva from Russian State University for Humanities.
The Russian and Polish table tennis teams dominated in the singles competition. For instance, Xin Yang won the match against Nelly Kasumova from Russian State University for Humanities. German athletes Jana Schneider and Alla Gorbenko beat Kazan player Olga Vlasova and Akeksandra Semenova from Moscow State University of Railway Engineering.

As for the mixed doubles international players showed good team-work. Piotr Chmiel from Poland in pair with Kazan player Anastasia Voronova qualified for the quaterfinal match against the duo of Igor Lezhnev and Olga Baranova who also come from different teams: Lezhnev is from Orenburg State University and Baranova is from Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. The Polish pair of Tomasz Lewandewsli and Agata Pastor is to encounter the duo of Ramil Mutygullin and Antonina Savelyeva from Kazan. Another host team of Ilya Zhidkov and Viktoria Lebedeva will have a duel meet against the team of Alexandra Semenova from Moscow State University of Railway Engineering and Artem Utochkin from Orenburg. Another Orenburg player Taras Merzlikin in pair with Tatiana Mikhailova from Russian State University for Humanities is to stand against the doubles team of Xin Yang from Czestochova and Pawel Chmiel from Rzeszov.
