Six Russian and two Polish athletes to play for top places 25.06.2010

The quaterfinalists of the European Universities Table Tennis Championship were decided in the morning program of Men’s singles.

As a result six Russian and two Polish players qualified for quaterfinals. Polish Pawel Chmiel from Rzeszov University of Technology will face Ramil Mutygullin who represents Kazan (Volga region) Federal University. Another host player Marsel Valeyev will fight against Taras Merzlikin from Russian State University for Humanities (Moscow). By the way both Kazan athletes had to undergo the qualification round. Third representative from Kazan Ilya Zhidkov will stand against Tomasz Lewandowski from Rzeszov University of Technology. At last Sergey Martykov, Russian State University for Humanities, is to compete with Mikhail Gladyshev from Orenburg State University. Mikhail Gladyshev has already won a gold medal in the team championship.

One of the most outstanding duel meets was between two Polish players in the round of 16. Pawel Chmiel defeated Jan Natolski of Polish nationality who plays for Cambridge University. Another Polish player Piotr Chmiel was on the losing side in the last 32 match against Marsel Valeyev 2-3. One more close game between Konstantin Makarov from Orenburg and Pattanasorn Phaoenchoke from Nottingham ended with a narrow 3-2 win in favor of the Russian athlete.
