Russians won Women’s final of European Universities Table Tennis Championship 24.06.2010
The women’s team of Russian State University for Humanities became the winner of the Championship. Three matches were enough for the athletes from Moscow to have a victory over the Jan Dlugosz University team.
The match between the women’s teams of Moscow and Czestochowa was dictated by the Russian team. Russian State University for Humanities team that had lost the match to the Polish athletes in the Group qualifying round the day earlier enjoyed a 3-0 whitewash. It should be noted that yesterday’s game was more dramatic. Only the fifth game decided the battle.
“Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time for rest. The match against the team of Kazan (Volga region) Federal University was very tense and the girls had no time to recover strength,” Jan Dlugosz University coach Wieslaw Pieta said to kazan2013.com. “If the girls had rested we would have won.”
The first game was between Ekaterina Rylskaya and Agata Pastor. The Polish player named favorite by the rivals lost all the games against the Russian athlete. The second game saw the encounter between Tatyana Mikhaylova from Moscow and Polish player Yang Xin that ended with a narrow 3-2 win in favor of the Russian athlete.
Anastasia Golubeva standing against Weronika Walna in the third game didn’t miss a chance to seal the title ahead of schedule. Russian State University for Humanities became the winner of the Championship.
“We won thanks to our attitude for victory. The girls wanted to win and they’ve done it,” Russian State University for Humanities coach Alexey Arkatov said to kazan2013.com. “We hoped to finish among the top places but we didn’t dream of gold medals.”
