Prospective Kazan 2013 volunteers to be interviewed 31.01.2012
Interviews with prospective candidates to win a volunteering role at the 2013 World University Summer Games will begin on February 1 as the first round of the Kazan 2013 volunteer selection campaign kicks off. Volunteer Recruitment Officer of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Tatyana Nikulina has told kazan2013.com about the upcoming procedure
— Tatyana, prospective candidates have already filled out a fairly detailed application at www.makeureal.kazan2013.com. What do you make an interview for?
— Volunteers will be helping in more than 40 aspects during the Universiade and each of these aspects has its own requirements for the prospective volunteers. As organizers of the event, we must ensure that it will go flawless. Correct distribution of responsibilities and volunteer coordination are especially important. That is why we need interviews to see if a candidate is motivated enough to become a volunteer, whether he is capable of the functions he needs to fulfill and which direction suits him best.
— How will an interview look like?
— In February 2012 each candidate who has filled out an application will receive an e-mail invitation with the date, time and place of an interview. Taking into consideration the fact that a lot of people from other cities and countries have expressed their interest, we will organize Skype interviews for them and will invite Kazan citizens to come to the office of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate. Instructors among which there will be Kazan 2013 volunteers who have undergone a special training session, will talk to the candidates and evaluate their skills and abilities according to a special scheme and will be able to see whether potential volunteers are capable of working on the desired position. We will also tell the candidates about the Universiade and categories of volunteers and we will answer their questions.
— Let’s talk a little bit more about the evaluation scheme. Could you please tell us which criteria will be used to evaluate prospective volunteers?
— The main criteria is candidate’s motivation and competence. The first block of questions shows how motivated the candidate is to be part of the Games, the second — whether one will be able to carry out assigned tasks. We will also evaluate their communicative abilities (whether they are able to communicate effectively with different people), stress resistance (ability to control their emotions, keep calm in non-standard situations), proactivity (being goal oriented), self-discipline (willingness to be responsible for their actions and the outcome of those actions), team work (effective cooperation with other team members).
— How will the final selection be organized in case there will be more than one candidate for the position?
— As we have estimated, there will be more than three candidates for each position. Each of them will receive a certain number of points after the interview that will define the process of choosing the teams for the positions. We will also take into consideration their experience of participation in test events that are being held in Kazan as part of the preparations for the Universiade.
