Kazan 2013 volunteers return home after their internship at Innsbruck 2012 25.01.2012
Five Kazan 2013 volunteers returned tonight from Innsbruck, where they had been serving as interns during the 1st Winter University Games
The Kazan 2013 volunteers earned the right to travel to the Youth Olympics as they were shortlisted by the Games Organising Committee at the end of 2011. The mandatory criteria were good language skills and experience of working at large-scale sporting events. Thanks to their involvement in numerous international test events held in Kazan in the run up to the 2013 Summer Universiade, Tatyana Nikulina, Albina Khusainova, Denis Gordiyko, Rezeda Akhmetova and Nailya Fakhrutdinova easily passed the competitive selection and successfully underwent their internship in Austria.

Our volunteers were entrusted with the most significant roles at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. For instance, Tatyana Nikulina acted as assistant to the manager of the venue where the Innsbruck 2012 Culture and Education Programme was implemented. Rezeda Akhmetova was appointed a volunteer coordinator at the media centre of one of the most important 2012 WYOG venues, and Denis Gordiyko worked as a photographer intern in the media centre of the Games. Two other volunteers, Albina Khusainova and Nailya Fakhrutdinova, became assistants (attaches) to the Russian national team. In the words of Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Marat Bariev, all the volunteers were highly commended by the 2012 WYOG Organising Committee for their hard work.
Before the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympics were launched, the volunteers had underwent a training course that had introduced them to their responsibilities, venues’ operation, the Games sports programme, etc. Along with fulfilling their roles, the volunteers also analysed the preparations and staging of the Games so that to apply this knowledge back home, when getting ready for hosting the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan.

For reference: Almost 20,000 volunteers will be needed during the 2013 Games. To become one, it is required to complete an online application at www.makeureal.kazan2013.com and pass an interview stage which will begin in February 2012.
