It’s time for playoffs 08.07.2010
The Day 3 evening program of the European Universities Table Tennis Championship saw the double-elimination games. Thursday matches decided the first outsiders of the Tournament.
In the morning program the duo of Lopez/Meptekh (University of Malaga) stayed unbeaten in the match against Naffin/Schulte (University of Flensburg) 2-0. But after a 1-2 defeat from the Polish tandem of Kedzia/Weclawek (Czestochowa University of Technology) disappointment replaced victory celebration for the Spanish team. Another Polish duo Slodownik/Laskowska (University of Warsaw) knocked off the British pair of Franke/Livca (London University) with a 2-1 score. The Russian duo Spiryakova/Bryk from the Kuban State University of Physic Education, Sport and Tourism took a 2-0 win over Maria and Francisca Esteves (University of Porto). Kedzia/Weclawek (Czestochowa University of Technology) toward the end of Day 3 pool plays beat Lopez/Meptekh (University of Malaga) 2-1. Their compatriots Slodownik/Laskowska (University of Warsaw) swept the Russian tandem of Spiryakova/Bryk.
The men’s events were much more intense. Russian duo Gritsay and Fedorov from Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service (Russia) had three matches. Losing the game to the Swiss tandem of Buehler/Catschegn (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) 1-2 the Vladivostok players ousted hosts of the court Panarin/Kashakarin from the Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute 2-0. They dropped their third match too: Gritsay/Fedorov fell to Sinczak/Lisiecki from the University of Lodz with a 2-0 score. In their turn Swiss players Buehler/Catschegn upset another Russian team of Krasilnikov/Kucherenko from Kuban State University of Physic Education, Sport and Tourism 2-1.
The Polish teams showed a good game in the Day 3 program. That can be proved by the Sinczak/Lisiecki (University of Lodz) win over the Oliveira/Forte tandem (Technical University of Lisbon) 2-0. Another encounter between Sobczak/Janiak (University of Lodz) and Lisbon pair Pires/Ribeiro ended with a 2-0 victory in favor of the Polish team. Szczepanik/Mrozovski from Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University overcame the German team of Eckeweber/Lampe (University of Mannheim) 2-0. And in the Polish derby between Sobczak/Janiak and Szczepanik/Mrozovski the first team eliminated the second one.
The evening program was also disappointimg for the German pair of Eckeweber/Lampe who lost their second meet to Foelmli/Lier from Bern 0-2. The Swiss tandem also posted another win over De Amo/Montoro from the University of Malaga 2-0. In the stand between De Amo/Montoro and Portuguese Pires/Ribeiro (Technical University of Lisbon) the Spanish duo prevailed with a 2-0 score.
