27th Summer Universiade, July 6-17 2013, Kazan

First large-scale tournament of women’s team from Germany 07.07.2010

July 6, Day 1 of the Championship saw the match between the women’s teams of the University of Flensburg (Germany) and the Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute.

German athletes Berit Naffin and Katharina Schulte posted a 2-0 win. We talked to the German girls and found out that for a well-coordinated play they need to have training sessions together.

Berit Naffin serving

-Did you like Kazan?

Katharina Schulte: Unfotrunately we didn’t have time to go sightseeing. On Friday we are going on a tour and we are looking forward to it. However we think that what we’ve seen already was beautiful.

-What is the strongest team in your opinion?

Katharina Schulte: The Russian team! It’s my personal opinion.
Berit Naffin: To tell the truth we haven’t seen how the other teams play as today is our first day in the tournament.

-Could you tell us how you got conditioned for the European Championship?

Berit Naffin: (laughs) I haven’t trained at all!
Katharina Schulte: Berit and I live in the same city, Flensburg, but I spent most of my time in Berlin that’s why we I train there. So we have our training sessions separately.

-But still your game was very well-coordinated…

Katharina Schulte: It’s because we have known each other for a long time and we’ve been playing together for the last 2-3 years.

-Did you participate in any other large tournaments like this Championship?

Berit Naffin: No. Only in the German Junior. I placed second in that tournament.
Katharina Schulte: I won the regional competition. So this is our first large-scale tournament.

-Are you going to participate in the 2013 Universiade in Kazan?

Berit Naffin: I think that we are not good enough for such an event but we still have three years left before the Universiade.
