FIFA’s inspection visit to Kazan 18.08.2010

The goal of the visit is to assess the Russian Bid for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup. We remind that the largest Universiade venue, 45,000-seat football stadium under construction, is included in Russia’s 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup Bid Book. The programme of visit of the FIFA delegates started with the presentation of Kazan international airport modernization project.

Later on the Evaluation Committee inspected the construction site of the largest Universiade venue – 45,000-seat football stadium. Populous Company representative Damon Lavelle and Swiss architect Tim Hupe presented the stadium project.

The FIFA’s visit to Kazan was marked with a high-profile event – the opening ceremony of the Olympus Football Stadium of Kazan State Technical University during which two more stadiums – the stadium of Kazan State Agrarian University on Farm Road and the stadium of Kazan State Technological University on Faizi Street – were inaugurated.

During the opening ceremony Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov stated that Tatarstan and its citizens were ready to host the largest world championship. On his part Harold Mayne-Nicholls welcomed the Kazan citizens and congratulated Tatarstan on opening of new football stadiums. “Each time I visit Kazan it’s a pleasure to see how dynamically the city develops. All the commitments that Russia made on staging the Universiade are being fulfilled,” Russian Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko said. He was accompanying the FIFA delegates during their visit to Kazan.

Later on the guests attended the presentation on Kazan as part of the Russian Bid for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup. The event took place at the Kazan City Hall.

Before their arrival to Kazan the FIFA representatives visited St Petersburg and Moscow, and afterwards flew to Sochi, host city of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
