European Championship to see the Russian final 24.06.2010
The Men’s Group semi-finals of the European Universities Table Tennis Championship concluded in Kazan.
Two Russian teams will compete in the Championship Men’s final.
Orenburg State University players whitewashed Russian State University for Humanities with a 3-0 score.
At the meantime Kazan (Volga region) Federal University team defeated Rzeszov University of Technology 3-1.
Thus two Russian teams – Orenburg State University and Kazan Federal University – will fight for gold.
“I think there is about 70 percent chance that we will win,” player and coach of Orenburg State University Igor Lezhnev says.
We remind that the Orenburg team won gold in the last year European Championship in Nis (Serbia), and ranked second in the very first Championship that was held in Ostrava (Czech Republic) in 2007.
According to the team’s coach the level of organization of the Kazan Championship is incomparably high. “It’s a completely different level,” he says.
When asked who has a chance to get on the podium in the Men’s singles Igor Lezhnev couldn’t answer, “Since Alexander Shibaev and Kirill Skachkov don’t compete in singles, the end of the individual championship can be quite unexpected. Though at the moment Mikhail Gladyshev and Pawel Chmiel show a very good game.”
