With yet another silver win at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore foil fencer Victoria Alexeyeva helped the Russian national team to top the YOG overall medal standings

The YOG fencing team events featured not national teams but continental teams made up of athletes from different National Olympic Committees (NOC). Together with three German representatives, an epee fencer from Poland and a Turkish foil fencer Victoria Alexeyeva played in the Europe 2 team. In the meet against Camilla Mancini, whom she had fallen to the other day in the individual event, the Tatarstan athlete came off second best 4-5. Alexeyeva’s team dropped the final match as well 24-30.

So after four days of competition Russia managed to restore leadership in the YOG non-official overall medal standings. Russia won 10 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals so far. China is second (10-5-2) and Italian athletes place third.

All in all the Tatarstan representatives won four medals at the Youth Olympic Games. Artyom Okulov took gold, foil fencer Victoria Alexeyeva earned double silver and Svetlana Lipatova captured bronze in freestyle wrestling.
