Beach volleyball in Riviera: first round of Russian Championship 01.07.2010
The Russian Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off on July 1. The tournament will last four days and will be held on the picturesque beach of the Riviera entertainment complex on the bank of the Kazanka river.
The first round of the Russian Championship will become a full-featured rehearsal of the upcoming XII European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship.
The strongest club pairs will compete in the Russian Championship. Among the participants of the men’s events we can name Alexander Likholetov and Evgeny Romashkin – winners of the recent CEV Satellite tournament in Romania and the last round of the Russian Regional Championship series in Moscow and also the pair of Andrey Maryshev and Alexey Yutvalin – multiple participants of the World Tour.

Russian Beach Volleyball Championship
It’s the Kaliningrad beach volleyball school representatives Likholetov-Romashkin who is the top seed in men’s. As for women’s teams it was the duo of Galina Boyko and Ekaterina Rayevskaya (the Moscow region) that became top-seeded. Boyko and Rayevskaya won three rounds of the Russian Regional Championship series of 2010 and in the last round in Moscow (June 25-27) they placed second.
It should be added that 16 teams will participate in the main draw of the men’s and women’s competitions, 8 of them will start to play in the main draw and 8 will join them by results of the qualification round.
The location of the tournament should be mentioned separately. The competition will be staged on the territory of the Riviera hotel and entertainment complex which is situated on the right bank of the Kazanka river with a picturesque view to the Kazan Kremlin. The Riviera aquapark is the largest in Russia and one of the biggest in Europe. Specially for the tournament three unique sports playing and two training sand courts were put up in Riviera. Beach volleyball is one of the most spectator and dynamically developing sports in the world. The summer sun, water, a cool breeze in hot weather – all this creates a unique entertainment atmosphere and high spirits of the spectators. Beach volleyball goes beyond the sports boundaries and represents brilliantly orchestrated bright sporting show that attracts a lot of viewers.

July 1 – Qualification
July 2 – Main draw group matches 32 games (16 men’s and 16 women’s)
July 3 – Main draw group matches 32 games, Drawing, Quarterfinals, 24 games (12 men’s and 12 women’s)
July 4 – Semifinals, Finals, 8 games (4 men’s and 4 women’s)
