At Seliger-2010 foreigners discovered Universiade-2013 19.07.2010
Thanks to the Seliger-2010 Youth Forum young people from all over the world got to learn more about the World Student Games in Kazan
For the 5th straight year the Seliger educational forum has been held on the bank of Seliger Lake in the Tver region. This year for first time in its history the forum features an international session. About 2,000 delegates from 90 foreign countries and a thousand of Russian young people aged between 18 and 28 years old arrived to attend this session.
About 30 students from Tatarstan also took part in the international session. The young people worked in the following themes: World Politics, Mass Media, Environment, Business and Innovations, Art and Design.
The Tatarstan delegates attended lectures read by leading experts in their fields. Naturally all the lectures were in English. In the afternoon the young people organized round tables according to their guidelines, discussed major issues, participated in workshops and enjoyed different open-air sporting and tourism activities, including: cycling in the woods, indoor shooting, kayaking, rock-climbing.
But the most interesting part of the forum lied in camp activities: for the first time the foreign young people as well as Russians had to sleep in the tents, carry drinking water, make a fire and cook meals over it. It’s in this atmosphere that the intercontinental friendship developed and the language barrier was overcome.
When the Tatarstan students were making friends with their foreign peers most of them were unaware of such a country as Tatarstan but as soon as they heard of Kazan most of them especially the Portuguese, Brazilian and Spanish delegates exclaimed, «Ah! We’ve heard of Kazan! Rubin!»
It turned out that some forum entrants knew about the 2013 Universiade as well. Besides the World Student Games became the reason of a pleasant come together: the Tatarstan delegates met a girl named Irina who had returned from the Volunteer camp that had been held in Kazan in the beginning of July and who had set off for the Seliger International forum right of the reel.
President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit became the most outstanding event for the forum participants. The young people presented him their best projects and demonstrated their work products.
This year there are the following themed sessions at the Seliger forum: International Session, Artparade (creation), Zvorykinsky Project (technical creation and innovations), Information Stream (journalism), Technology of Kindness, Leadership. It is expected that the sessions will be attended by about 150 participants from Tatarstan.
