27th Summer Universiade, July 6-17 2013, Kazan

Anais Fort and Manon Pepelnjak(University of Grenoble, France): The Championship volunteers are irreplaceable 10.07.2010

Interview with the French athletes about their stay in Kazan

- How do you assess your performance at the Championship?
- At each championship we show a different game. Some matches are tight and some are easy. We’ve tried to play equally and do everything in our hands.

- What team is the strongest to your mind?
- Surely it’s the women’s Polish team. Their performance is strong and brilliant.

- How long have you been playing beach volleyball?

- We are not beach volleyball players. We’ve been playing indoor volleyball for 10 years already. And we started to play beach volley two years ago. Since then we’ve been practicing it on a regular basis. We’ve been also playing in the same team for two years. But in general we are in different teams in indoor volleyball.

- What championships, tournaments did you take part in?

- We took part in national championships only, we haven’t had any international experience yet. We’ve participated mainly in universities championships.

- What can you say about the organization of the VII European Univerities Beach Volleyball Championship?
- It’s great. No complaints, no comments. The volunteers (smile)… we like how they work. Our volunteer attache is accompanying us everywhere, helping us in everything, consulting us. She even does the work we don’t expect her to do. Today Regina took us around Kazan.

- What did you see during your sightseeing? What place did you like the most?
- The city is very beautiful and entertaining. We liked the Kremlin, the Kul Sharif mosque, it is a striking monument.

- What is the most remarkable difference between Kazan and French cities?
- Kazan is a big city. The most striking thing about Kazan is a sharp contrast between modern skyscrapers, new buildings and old ones. There is not such a thing in France. Besides you will not see cars driving three lanes both ways in France – we have narrow one-lane roads.

- What do you major in?
- We are future specialists in Physical Education and Biology.

- What was the most memorable Championship match for you?
- We think it was the match against Poland. It involved a lot of effort and diligence.

- Do you have any plans for the coming season?
- We are going to have a holiday after the Championship. Following which we’ll start indoor volleyball training.
