«Russia – country of sports» International Sports Forum starts in Moscow today 30.07.2010

Day 1 of the forum started with the All-Russian conference “Development of physical culture and sports in the constituent entity of the Russian Federation: by experience of the city of Moscow”

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov delivered a welcome speech to the forum attendees. In his speech he noted that this forum would be very useful to all sports representatives from Russian regions.

Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov told about the significance of physical culture and sports in the constituent entity of the Russian Federation by experience of the city of Moscow.

«30 years ago Russia hosted the XXII Summer Olympic Games and today we take proud that Russia is going to host the Kazan Universiade. We are bidding for hosting the FIFA World Cup but modern Russia’s greatest acheivement is the right to host the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. We must provide for every eventuality so that our work in developing mass sport and physical culture resulted in our national team’s victories in the 2012 London Olympics and in the 2014 Sochi Olympics of course,» said Yury Luzhkov.

The international forum will host another events: theme workshops, round tables, research and practice conferences, exhibitions and expositions.

The “Modern Sport: Innovations and Perspectives” Exhibition became a high-profile event of Day 1 of the Forum. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov, Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko, Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov and other officials. The exhibition introduced stands of more than 80 Russian regions. The Tatarstan exposition located in the central site of the pavilion is by common admission the most impressive one. The guests take pictures with Uni, the kitten of snow leopard, and participate in various sports contests. Svetlana Khorkina who visited the Tatarstan exposition got a coin with the Universiade mascot on it (the coining press machine is installed nearby the exhibition stand and everyone can get a souvenir coin).

In the frame of the Forum signing of the Memorandum of Understanding of the FISU international education center in Russia is scheduled for July 30. It is expected that Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko, FISU President George E. Killian, President of the Russian Student’s Sports Union Oleg Matytsin and other officials will attend the event. Besides among the attendees there will be FISU Vice-President Stefan Berg, FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond, EUSA President Alberto Gualtieri.

We remind that the Forum will end on August 1.
