After the match, senior coaches of Russia and Malta, Dmitry Ulyanov and Silvio Vella, gave their comments on the game.

"The first game went well. It was a little above average. We scored a fast goal and we gained an advantage. Then everything went the way we expected. Although, there were a few things that did not work," said Ulyanov.

"We knew that the match would be difficult as the Russians were playing at home. Unfortunately, we were not able to execute the game plan as we made several mistakes. The second half was better, but just as in the first half, we missed an easy goal. My team did its best and fought, but we need to improve and play differently in the next match. I congratulate the citizens of Kazan with the fact that they have such a nice stadium; we liked the field. But, to tell the truth, it was a bit chilly. Currently, it's 20 degrees Celsius in Malta, and we have the weather like yours in February," said Vella.

The second part of the qualifying round will be held at the Rubin Stadium on October 12. The Russian national team will play against the team of Estonia, and the Ukrainians will encounter Malta.
